Pottery wheel throwing and hand building.
- 95 British pounds£95
This day long course provides a thorough introduction to the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel and building by hand using the coiling method. You will learn the basic techniques of throwing: centring, coning, opening, lifting and thinning the clay wall to make taller pots. Other processes may be introduced depending on time available. You will use a variety of tools to help shape, join and carve the clay and become skilled in how to make coils suitable for the construction of your pot. By the end of the day, you will have several pieces of finished thrown work and a handmade decorative jar. All work will be dried and fired, and you will be invited back to decorate and glaze. Your pots are usually ready to pick up within two months, varying on conditions. Arrangements will be made via email. Class size is limited to 6 people, each with a dedicated potters' wheel. The price includes all materials, glazes, and firings. We do provide aprons, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please wear appropriate clothing and remove any hand/wrist jewellery as it is messy. Please bring your own refreshments.
